"Showers of Mercy" is a local (Nambour, Queensland) charitable organisation formed by a small group of volunteer chaplains and caring friends, whose desire is to raise funds to enable all hospital chaplains and pastoral carers to continue the work they are doing in hospitals, retirement villages and palliative care facilities on the Sunshine Coast.

We also have a desire to raise up, support and train people to become hospital chaplains and pastoral carers. These valuable volunteers are the people who sit with and hold the hand of our mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters of the Sunshine Coast in their hour of need.

Some of the people we meet at times fall through the gaps of the hospital system. Our aim is to support where we can, these people through their difficult times and ensure that a caring, loving presence is available.

Your financial support, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated by all of us.

The Greek word eleeo refers to someone who would take care of the sick - otherwise known as "Showers of Mercy". In the New Testament the word is often used of Christ's gracious faithfulness and proof of His benevolence. Mercy is not merely a passive emotion, but an active desire to remove the cause of distress in others. Our goal is by the name of God to be able to support and care for the sick, the lonely and the lost by reflecting the mercy shown to us by Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

We want to be able to financially support existing volunteer Chaplains and Pastoral Care workers that are already working in the hospital system on the Sunshine Coast of Australia. We also desire to see that every hospital, retirement village and respite care facility situated on the Sunshine Coast are being supported and visited by Chaplains and Pastoral Care workers. Our desire is to see God raise up ordinary people who would seek to serve in His Kingdom as "Showers of Mercy" to the sick, the lonely and the lost.

I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me. (Matthew 25:35-36)

Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me. (Matthew 25:40)

We hope to raise the community’s awareness to the sad plight of people who are forgotten and lonely in hospitals and retirement homes.

Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’  “If you take away the yoke from your midst, The pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, If you extend your soul to the hungry And satisfy the afflicted soul, Then your light shall dawn in the darkness, And your darkness shall be as the noonday. The Lord will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. Those from among you Shall build the old waste places; You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In. “If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, From doing your pleasure on My holy day, And call the Sabbath a delight, The holy day of the Lord honourable, And shall honour Him, not doing your own ways, Nor finding your own pleasure, Nor speaking your own words, Then you shall delight yourself in the Lord; And I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth, And feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father. The mouth of the Lord has spoken.” (Isaiah 58:7-14)

We want to be able to assist with funding to help train and equip those who are genuinely called by God to minister in these areas. Ultimately in all that we are and do we wish to reflect and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
